About Us

Leather As Art is a small family-run business operating in a 28' X 30' workshop.  Four sewing machines and various other equipment are used to produce our products.  We buy our leather and hardware from select sources.

Gary began leathercraft as a hobby - something to occupy his time when bad weather delayed construction work.  It soon became his calling and he changed careers.  He began as store manager for a national company that sold leather and related supplies to leather hobbyists.  While there, he apprenticed under a very talented leather worker.  In 1987, Gary launched his own business:  "Leather As Art."  Since then, he has become a noted crafter of small leather goods, distributed primarily at high quality, juried craft shows.  Gary's work has been recognized at some of those shows - most recently, an Award of Excellence in Crafts at the Power's Crossroads Arts and Crafts Show in Newnan, GA.

Kay, Gary's wife, works as Director of Career and Technical Education for the local school system.  When home, she assumes many roles including accountant, secretary, photo illustrator, advertising agent, and production assistant.  Kay also enjoys traveling to the shows where she helps Gary with display and sales.
